Access English Micro-Scholarship Program

The English Access Microscholarship Program (Access) provides a foundation of English language skills to bright, economically disadvantaged students, primarily between the ages of 13 to 20, in their home countries. Access programs give participants English skills that may lead to better jobs and educational prospects. Participants also gain the ability to compete for and participate in future exchanges and study in the United States.

This program teaches conversational English while giving students hands-on opportunities to learn and practice life-shaping and community-building leadership skills. Since 2011, WA has graduated over 1,175 Access students. These students received over 400 hours of instruction and mentoring on English language, critical thinking and leadership development. Our Access graduates represent $1.8 million of investment which was provided via sponsorship from the U. S. Department of State - the Education and Cultural Affairs. On average, these students increase their conversational English by 100% and possess a high capacity for values-based leadership. They are thus poised to impact and serve their peers, families, and communities well into the future.
